Founded in 2013 and led by Cyrus Nabipoor & Amina Scott, Noruz is an entirely original fusion of jazz & modern American music,.  Resulting from New Orleans’ rich culture and its member’s musical backgrounds, Noruz plays sounds for the new day.  Grooves, melody & improvisation are the musical focus.  The band blends acoustic and electronic elements, creating something that sounds both historical & innovative.  Some of their main influences include the Robert Glasper Experiment, Headhunters, the Brian Blade Fellowship, Kneebody, and Miles Davis’ electric band. The band has performed many times at notable New Orleans venues such as Tipitina’s, Howlin Wolf, and Blue Nile.

In Winter of 2013, in partnership with storied jazz producer John Snyder, Nabipoor and Scott (classmates in Loyola University’s music program) released their debut album, “Music for Dads”.  They then released four singles, as part of an animal-focused project.  They are in the process of producing their sophomore album The Witching Hour, to be released Fall 2017.  Noruz places special emphasis on the pairing of visual art and music, and gets all artwork/design from Shamanth D’Souza.
