DESCRIPTION:chaptersoul \nChapter:SOUL is New Orleans’ newest funk innovation. The band features the collaboration of saxophonist Calvin Johnson and legendary sousaphonist Kirk Joseph\, with Kashonda Bailey on keys. The band adds a fresh and powerful sound to the world of funk and soul\, blending old-school horn licks with modern sounds over tight beats for a verifiable crowd favorite. Chapter:SOUL is currently tracking its debut album\, and plans for a release later in 2016. \n\n      Calvin Johnson is a New Orleans saxophonist from a long lineage of musicians. He is a graduate of New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) with a degree in business from the University of New Orleans. Calvin has performed\, toured\, and recorded with Aaron Neville\, Harry Connick Jr.\, Big Sam’s Funky Nation\, Irvin Mayfield\, The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra\, and many others. \nKirk Joseph\, one of the founding members of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band\, is a jazz sousaphone player from New Orleans\, Louisiana. In addition to playing with the Dozen and Chapter:SOUL\, Kirk leads his own group called Kirk Joseph’s Backyard Groove. Described as a “modern sousaphone pioneer\,… the style of playing created by Lacen (Tuba Fats) and Joseph was instrumental in establishing the modern New Orleans brass band sound\, which combines the traditional New Orleans culture of marching band and traditional jazz and strong soul and funk influences.”
